Dhṛtarāṣṭra said: “They are capable of enjoying the earth and are competent even in the means to obtain it. Moreover, this ocean-bounded land is their ancestral inheritance, belonging to their fathers and grandfathers as well.”

Legitimate sovereignty is tied to rightful inheritance and capability: Dhṛtarāṣṭra acknowledges that the Pāṇḍavas are both entitled to the kingdom by ancestral right and competent to secure and govern it, implying an ethical critique of denying them their due.
In the Drona Parva context, Dhṛtarāṣṭra reflects on the Pāṇḍavas’ strength and their rightful claim to the realm, recognizing that the ocean-bounded earth is their paternal and grandpaternal heritage—an admission that the conflict involves the violation of their legitimate share.
