Dhṛtarāṣṭra said: “Sañjaya, when morning came, what did they do—those Pāṇḍavas overwhelmed by grief and sorrow after Abhimanyu had been slain there? And among my own warriors, who then fought?”
धृतराष्ट उवाच
The verse foregrounds how adharma in war yields immediate moral and emotional consequences: the death of a young hero (Abhimanyu) plunges the righteous side into grief, while the blind king’s concern turns to tactical outcomes—who fought and what happened next—hinting at the ethical cost of attachment to ‘my side’ (māmakāḥ).
After Abhimanyu has been killed, Dhṛtarāṣṭra asks Sañjaya to report what the grief-stricken Pāṇḍavas did at daybreak and which Kaurava warriors engaged in the ensuing fighting, setting up the next phase of battle events.
