किमर्थ च विषादस्ते तद्‌ ब्रूहि द्विपदां वर । न शोच्यं विदुषां श्रेष्ठ शोक: कार्यविनाशन:,“मनुष्योंमें श्रेष्ठ अर्जुन! बताओ तो सही, तुम्हें किसलिये विषाद हो रहा है? विद्वद्वर! तुम्हें शोक नहीं करना चाहिये; क्योंकि शोक समस्त कर्मोंका विनाश करनेवाला है

kimarthaṃ ca viṣādas te tad brūhi dvipadāṃ vara | na śocyaṃ viduṣāṃ śreṣṭha śokaḥ kārya-vināśanaḥ ||

Sañjaya said: “Tell me, O best among men, for what reason has this dejection come upon you? O foremost of the wise, you should not give way to grief—for grief destroys one’s capacity for action and undermines the very work that must be done.”
