Sañjaya said: Hearing Kṛṣṇa’s words, Dhananjaya (Arjuna) performed ācamana by touching water in purification. Then, seated upon the ground with a single-pointed mind, he turned his inward thought toward Bhava—Mahādeva, Śiva.

Before undertaking a decisive act—especially in a morally charged setting like war—one should steady oneself through inner purification and single-pointed focus, and seek higher guidance through devotion rather than acting from agitation.
After hearing Krishna’s instruction, Arjuna performs a brief ritual purification (touching water for ācamana), sits on the ground in concentration, and mentally contemplates Bhava (Shiva), indicating he is preparing for prayer or divine assistance.
