Description of War Standards
bhrātuḥ paitṛṣvaseyasya vyapaneṣyāmi dāruka |
Sañjaya said: “O Dāruka, I shall remove, in a single day, the grief and smouldering resentment of my brother’s paternal cousin.”
संजय उवाच
The line foregrounds the kṣatriya ethos of taking decisive action to restore honor and relieve a kinsman’s distress; it also shows how vows and kinship obligations can intensify the moral pressure within war.
Sañjaya reports a warrior’s resolve addressed to Dāruka: he intends to end, within a single day, the sorrow and pent-up anger connected with a close paternal cousin—framing an imminent, time-bound act of retaliation or redress on the battlefield.
