Educational Q&A

A solemn vow grounded in kṣatriya resolve and dharmic purpose is portrayed as inviolable: Arjuna’s commitment is so firm that even superhuman classes of beings cannot overturn it. The verse elevates ethical steadfastness—keeping one’s pledged word—as a central heroic virtue.

Sanjaya, narrating events to Dhṛtarāṣṭra, underscores the unstoppable nature of Arjuna’s declared vow in the midst of the Kurukṣetra war. By listing Devas, Gandharvas, Asuras, Nāgas, and Rākṣasas, he emphasizes that no extraordinary power can make Arjuna’s pledge fail or be reversed.
