Droṇa and Sātyaki: The Chariot Duel
ततः सैन्धवको राजा क्षुद्रस्तात जयद्रथ: । वरदानेन रुद्रस्य सर्वान् न: समवारयत्,तात! ठीक इसी समय नीच सिंधुनरेश राजा जयद्रथने सामने आकर भगवान् शंकरके दिये हुए वरदानके प्रभावसे हम सब लोगोंको रोक दिया
tataḥ saindhavako rājā kṣudras tāta jayadrathaḥ | varadānena rudrasya sarvān naḥ samavārayat ||
Then that Saindhava king—base in conduct, Jayadratha—came forward, dear brother, and by the power of the boon granted by Rudra (Śiva) he checked and held back all of us.
युधिछिर उवाच
Power in the world may arise not only from personal merit but also from boons and circumstances; therefore dharma requires perseverance and clarity of purpose even when an unjust or ignoble opponent gains extraordinary advantage.
Yudhiṣṭhira reports that Jayadratha, king of Sindhu, stepped forward and—empowered by a boon from Rudra (Śiva)—successfully blocked the advancing warriors, preventing them from proceeding.
