Sañjaya said: “Yuyutsu—the exceedingly intelligent son of King Dhṛtarāṣṭra by his wife of Vaiśya birth—overcome with anger and grief, spoke those words to the Kauravas and then, casting aside his weapon, withdrew and came away. Why, O Kṛṣṇa, did you not tell me this in the midst of the battle?”

Educational Q&A

Even amid war, inner conscience can compel a person to reject participation in wrongdoing: Yuyutsu, shaken by anger and grief at the Kauravas’ conduct, abandons his weapon and withdraws—suggesting that dharma may require stepping back from adharma, even at personal cost.

Sañjaya reports that Yuyutsu, Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s son by a Vaiśya-born wife, spoke strongly to the Kauravas and then left the fighting after throwing down his weapon. The speaker then questions Kṛṣṇa about why this development was not communicated earlier during the battle.
