Droṇasya raudra-prayogaḥ
Droṇa’s intensified assault and the Pāṇḍava response
स्वमनीकं महेष्वास: पार्षतं समुपाद्रवत् । तब महाथनुर्धर द्रोणाचार्यने अपनी सेनाको काबूमें करके उसे युद्धस्थलमें स्थिरभावसे खड़ा कर दिया और ट्रुपदकुमारपर धावा किया || ५० $ ।। स बाणवर्ष सुमहदसृजत् पार्षतं प्रति
svamanīkaṁ maheṣvāsaḥ pārṣataṁ samupādravat | sa bāṇavarṣaṁ sumahad asṛjat pārṣataṁ prati ||
Sañjaya said: The mighty archer Droṇa, having brought his own division under control and set it firmly in battle order, charged straight at Pārṣata (Dhṛṣṭadyumna), the son of Drupada. Then he unleashed a tremendous shower of arrows against him. The scene underscores the grim ethic of kṣatriya warfare: disciplined command of troops and single-minded engagement with a principal foe, even when personal enmity and destiny press upon the combatants.
