Droṇasya raudra-prayogaḥ

Droṇa’s intensified assault and the Pāṇḍava response

Sañjaya said: “The roar of the Kuru and Pāṇḍava armies filled the world. Thereafter, with each side intent on the other’s destruction, a dreadful battle erupted between the Kaurava and Pāṇḍava forces, and their tumult seemed to pervade the whole earth.”

Educational Q&A

The verse underscores how collective hatred and the intent to kill rapidly escalate into all-consuming violence: when mutual destruction becomes the aim, the ‘noise’ of conflict spreads everywhere, symbolizing the ethical collapse that accompanies war.

Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that the Kaurava and Pāṇḍava armies raise a tremendous din, and immediately a fierce battle breaks out as both sides rush to slay one another.
