सनाथमिव मन्ये5हं भवता पालितं बलम् | अत्र कि नु समर्थ यद्धितं तत् सम्प्रधार्यताम्,“कर्ण! तुम्हारे द्वारा इस सेनाका संरक्षण हो रहा है, इससे मैं इसे सनाथ हुई-सी मानता हूँ। अब यहाँ हमारे लिये क्या करना उपयोगी और हितकर है, इसका निश्चय करो”
sanātham iva manye 'haṁ bhavatā pālitaṁ balam | atra kiṁ nu samarthaṁ yad dhitaṁ tat sampradhāryatām ||
Sanjaya said: “I regard this army as though it has found a protector, since it is being safeguarded by you. Now, consider carefully and decide what course here is truly feasible—and what will be beneficial for us.”
संजय उवाच
Effective leadership in crisis combines protection with clear-sighted deliberation: one must assess what is realistically achievable (samartham) and choose what is truly beneficial (hitam), rather than acting from impulse.
Sanjaya addresses Karna, acknowledging that the army feels ‘supported’ because Karna is guarding it, and urges him to deliberate and decide the most workable and advantageous next step in the unfolding battle.
