Sañjaya said: He then struck Sātyaki with three arrows, Vṛkodara (Bhīma) with eight, Dhṛṣṭadyumna with sixty, and Virāṭa with ten shafts. Thus, by a calculated shower of missiles, he reasserted control over the battle-line at the very point where Abhimanyu had earlier shattered the formation, turning that breach into a fiercely contested front.

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights disciplined martial focus: a warrior applies measured force against key opponents to stabilize a collapsing front. Ethically, it reflects k63atriya-dharma as portrayed in the epicduty-bound combat conducted with tactical clarity rather than random cruelty.

After Abhimanyu has earlier ruptured a section of the enemy formation, the battle concentrates around that breach. Sanjaya reports a counteraction: the warrior targets leading P199ava championsS1tyaki, Bh2bma, Dh9639adyumna, and Vir01awith specified numbers of arrows, indicating an attempt to regain control of that critical sector.
