Sañjaya said: Then, seeing your son’s great force turning away from the fight, your radiant son-in-law Jayadratha rushed forward, intent on steadying and rallying it. At the same time, fierce assailants—having arrayed their troops in battle-formation—charged in, seeking to strike and press their advantage.

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights a recurring ethical-strategic lesson of the epic: when an army loses resolve and turns away, the leader’s duty is to restore steadiness and order, while the opposing side will naturally exploit hesitation. In dharma-conflict settings, inner firmness (saṁstambha) and disciplined formation (vyūha) become decisive.

Sañjaya reports that Duryodhana’s forces have turned away from the fight. Seeing this, Jayadratha rushes in to stabilize and rally them, while battle-arrayed attackers charge forward to strike during the moment of disarray.
