Bhīṣma’s Encouragement of Karṇa

sa satyasaṅgato bhūtvā mametad iti niścitaḥ | kurūṇāṁ pālaya balaṁ yathā duryodhanas tathā ||

Sañjaya said: “Be firmly allied in truth and loyalty, convinced that ‘this is mine’—my own cause and responsibility. Protect the Kuru host just as Duryodhana himself would.”

Educational Q&A

The verse stresses steadfast loyalty and ownership of responsibility: a leader should protect the army with the same commitment as the principal claimant (Duryodhana), acting with firm resolve and fidelity to the chosen side.

Sañjaya reports an instruction urging a commander/ally to stand true to the Kaurava cause and to safeguard the Kuru forces with the same vigilance and determination that Duryodhana would show.
