अभिमन्यु-पराक्रमवर्णनम्

Abhimanyu’s Prowess and the Duḥśāsana Engagement

इस प्रकार श्रीमहाभारत द्रोणपर्वके अन्तर्गत अभिगन्युवधपर्वमें आभिमन्युपराक्रमविषयक सैंतीसवाँ अध्याय पूरा हुआ

iti prakāraṁ śrīmahābhārate droṇaparvake antargata abhimanyuvadhaparvaṇi ābhimanyuparākrama-viṣayakaḥ saptatriṁśattamo 'dhyāyaḥ pūrṇaḥ

Sañjaya said: Thus, in the Śrī Mahābhārata, within the Droṇa Parva, in the section concerning the slaying of Abhimanyu, the thirty-seventh chapter—describing Abhimanyu’s heroic prowess—comes to its close. The colophon underscores the ethical weight of the episode: a young warrior’s valor is remembered even as the narrative moves through the harsh necessities and moral tensions of war.

Educational Q&A

As a colophon, the verse does not teach through direct instruction; it frames the episode’s moral memory: Abhimanyu’s parākrama (heroic excellence) is highlighted even amid the ethically fraught violence of war, reminding readers that valor and dharma are evaluated not only by victory but by conduct and sacrifice.

This is the chapter-ending colophon stating that the thirty-seventh chapter—focused on Abhimanyu’s prowess—has concluded, situating it within Droṇa Parva and specifically within the Abhimanyu-vadha (Abhimanyu’s slaying) section.
