Vyāsa said: He is adorned with beautiful armlets and wears a serpent-formed sacred thread; he shines amid all the hosts and the multitudes of beings who attend him. Know him as the one, unrivalled Lord—the very treasury and abiding seat of austerity—whom aged sages praise with well-chosen, pleasing words.

Educational Q&A

The verse teaches reverent recognition of the Supreme as singular and unsurpassed, marked by ascetic power (tapas) and worthy of praise. Ethical emphasis lies in humility before spiritual greatness and in valuing disciplined austerity as a source of authority.

Vyāsa describes a deity-like figure—adorned with armlets and a serpent sacred thread—surrounded by hosts of attendants and multitudes of beings. The description functions as a stuti (eulogy), urging the listener to understand him as the unique Lord and the repository of austerities, praised by venerable elders.
