जलजानि च सत्त्वानि दहमानानि भारत । न शान्तिमुपजम्मुर्हि तप्यमानैर्जलाशयै:,भारत! जलाशय भी तप गये थे, जिससे दग्ध होनेवाले जलचर प्राणियोंको भी शान्ति नहीं मिल पाती थी

jalajāni ca sattvāni dahamānāni bhārata | na śāntim upajagmur hi tapyamānaiḥ jalāśayaiḥ ||

Sañjaya said: “O Bhārata, even the water-born creatures, burning in that heat, could find no relief; for the very lakes and reservoirs themselves had grown scorching.”
