Yudhiṣṭhira said: “Again and again this uproar rises, and it even makes my own troops tremble. In this ocean-like host of the Kaurava army, the tumult has begun to surge with exceedingly fierce force, repeatedly swelling, and it shakes the hearts of my soldiers.”

The verse highlights a leader’s ethical responsibility to notice and respond to the psychological state of his own forces. Even when one’s cause is righteous, war generates fear and destabilization; dharma in leadership includes protecting morale and acting with awareness of the human cost.
Yudhiṣṭhira observes that the Kaurava host, vast like an ocean, is producing a repeatedly swelling, intense clamour. This escalating noise and momentum is unsettling his own soldiers, making them tremble, and he voices concern about the growing pressure of the enemy’s advance.
