Sañjaya said: “O son of Pṛṣata (Dhṛṣṭadyumna), I shall embrace you again as a victor. When the charioteer’s son (Karna) is slain, and when the sinful Dhārtarāṣṭra (Duryodhana) too falls in battle, then I will clasp you to my chest in the same way.”

Educational Q&A

The verse frames victory as morally charged: the embrace is promised only after the fall of those labeled as adharma-aligned foes (Karna and Duryodhana). It highlights how, in epic ethics, emotional bonds and public honor are tied to the perceived righteousness of the war’s outcome.

Sañjaya reports a vow-like statement addressed to Dhṛṣṭadyumna: the speaker promises to embrace him again as a victor once Karna and Duryodhana are killed in the ongoing battle, marking anticipated turning points in the Kurukṣetra war.
