अमृष्यमाण: कर्णस्तु भीमसेनमयुध्यत । विविधैरिषुजालैश्न नानाशस्त्रैश्व संयुगे,कर्णको भीमसेनका यह पराक्रम सहन नहीं हुआ। वह नाना प्रकारके बाणसमूहों तथा अनेकानेक शस्त्रोंसे रणभूमिमें उनके साथ युद्ध करने लगा
amṛṣyamāṇaḥ karṇas tu bhīmasenam ayudhyata | vividhair iṣujālaiś ca nānāśastraiś ca saṃyuge ||
Sañjaya said: Unable to endure Bhīmasena’s prowess, Karṇa engaged him in battle. In the thick of combat he fought with varied nets of arrows and with many kinds of weapons, pressing the fight on the battlefield with relentless force.
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights a warrior’s inability to tolerate an opponent’s dominance, leading to intensified violence. Ethically, it points to how anger and wounded pride can drive escalation in war, even while remaining within the outward frame of kṣatriya combat.
Sañjaya reports that Karṇa, provoked and unable to endure Bhīma’s display, directly engages him. Karṇa attacks with dense volleys of arrows and multiple weapons, indicating a fierce, close contest on the battlefield.
