Sañjaya said: “O Bhārata, what you are saying is the sort of talk uttered by foolish men. For who, after encountering Arjuna in battle, could possibly return home safe and unscathed?”
The verse underscores sober discernment in the face of war: empty confidence and wishful speech are condemned as folly, while Arjuna’s prowess is presented as a moral and strategic reality that must be acknowledged.
Sañjaya addresses Dhṛtarāṣṭra (called Bhārata), rebuking a naïve or overconfident remark and stressing that confronting Arjuna on the battlefield is so perilous that returning home unharmed is scarcely possible.
