tataḥ kruddho mahārāja śaineyaḥ prahasann iva | dhanuś ciccheda samare kauravyasya mahātmanaḥ ||
Sañjaya said: Then, O King, Śaineya (Sātyaki), inflamed with anger and seeming almost to smile, cut down in the thick of battle the bow of that high-souled Kaurava.
संजय उवाच
Even amid anger, a warrior’s action can be guided by discernment: disabling an enemy’s weapon highlights strategic mastery and the kṣatriya ideal of shaping battle through skill, not mere rage.
Sañjaya reports that Sātyaki (Śaineya), enraged yet seemingly smiling, severs the bow of a Kaurava opponent during combat, abruptly reducing the opponent’s fighting capability.
