सेनासु सर्वासु च पार्श्चतो <5न्ये पश्चात्‌ पुरस्ताच्च समन्ततश्न । मध्ये तथान्ये ज्वलिताग्निहस्ता व्यदीपयन्‌ पाण्डुसुतस्य सेनाम्‌

Transliteration

senāsu sarvāsu ca pārśvato 'nye paścāt purastāc ca samantataś ca | madhye tathānye jvalitāgnihastā vyadīpayan pāṇḍusutasya senām ||

Translation

Sañjaya said: In all the divisions of the army, some attacked from the flanks, others from behind and from the front, and others from every side. Still others, standing in the midst with blazing firebrands in their hands, lit up the army of the son of Pāṇḍu—intensifying the terror and confusion of the night-battle and driving the conflict toward ruthless, all-surrounding violence.
