ayaṃ sa kālaḥ samprāpto mitrāṇāṃ mitravatsala | trāyasva samare karṇa sarvān yodhān mahārathān ||
Sañjaya said: “That decisive moment has now arrived, O you who are tenderly devoted to your friends. In this battle, Karṇa, protect all our warriors—those great chariot-fighters.”

In a moment of crisis, leadership is framed as protective responsibility: Karṇa is urged to act from loyalty and care for allies, safeguarding the community of warriors rather than pursuing personal glory alone.
Sañjaya, narrating the battlefield events, signals that a decisive turning point has arrived and calls upon Karṇa—known for devotion to friends—to protect all the Kaurava champions (mahārathas) in the ongoing combat.
