अध्याय १५९ — रात्रौ श्रमविरामः
Night Exhaustion and Brief Pause in Battle
प्रातिपेयस्तु संक्रुद्ध: शक्ति भीमस्य वक्षसि
prātipeyastu saṅkruddhaḥ śaktiṃ bhīmasya vakṣasi
Sañjaya said: Enraged, Prātipeya hurled his spear at Bhīma’s chest—showing how battlefield wrath drives warriors to decisive, life-taking blows, where courage and restraint are tested amid the chaos of dharma’s tragic contest.
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights how anger (krodha) can dominate judgment in war, pushing a warrior toward lethal, immediate action; it implicitly contrasts the kṣatriya duty to fight with the ethical danger of being ruled by rage rather than disciplined resolve.
Sañjaya reports that the warrior Prātipeya, overcome with fury, casts a śakti (spear/javelin) aimed at Bhīma’s chest during the battle in Droṇa Parva.
