Sañjaya said: The mighty son of Droṇa, Aśvatthāmā—bearing the banner marked with a drop—assailed the sons of Pṛthā with volleys of nārāca arrows. With that onslaught he struck them down, and then slew Suratha, the son of Drupada. The scene underscores the relentless escalation of battlefield fury, where prowess and wrath override restraint and the cost is borne by many, including lesser-known princes caught in the tide of vengeance.
