Sañjaya said: “O Kṛṣṇa, O Govinda! By good fortune my joy has been made great—because Arjuna, protected by you, has slain the sinful Jayadratha. This deed has brought me profound gladness.”

The verse highlights the ethical idea that righteous action in war succeeds when aligned with dharma and supported by wise, divine guidance. Kṛṣṇa’s protection symbolizes discerning counsel and providential support enabling the removal of a grievous wrongdoer (pāpa).
Sañjaya reports that Arjuna, safeguarded by Kṛṣṇa, has killed Jayadratha. This is a pivotal moment in the Kurukṣetra war, fulfilling Arjuna’s vow and reversing the enemy’s advantage, which fills Sañjaya with great joy.
