अस्माद्धि कुरुमुख्यानां महदुत्पत्स्यते भसम् । “जिस समय कुलान्तकारी पापी दुर्योधनका जन्म हुआ था, उस समय महाज्ञानी विदुरजीने यही सब विनाशकारी परिणाम देखकर राजा धृतराष्ट्रसे कहा था कि “इस कुलांगार बालकको परलोक भेज दिया जाय, यही अच्छा होगा; क्योंकि इससे प्रधान- प्रधान कुरुवंशियोंको महान् भय उत्पन्न होगा” || १३-१४ ई || तदिदं समनुप्राप्तं वचनं सत्यवादिन:,'सत्यवादी विदुरजीका वह कथन आज सत्य हो रहा है। दुर्योधनके ही कारण आज मैं अपने गुरुको शर-शय्यापर पड़ा देखता हूँ। क्षत्रियके आचार, बल और पुरुषार्थको धिक्कार है! धिक्कार है
asmāddhi kurumukhyānāṁ mahad utpatsyate bhasma
Sañjaya said: “From this man (Duryodhana) a great ruin—like ashes—will arise for the foremost of the Kurus.” The verse recalls Vidura’s earlier warning to Dhṛtarāṣṭra: that Duryodhana’s very birth foretold destruction for the Kuru elders and leaders.
