Sañjaya said: “O great king, for the sake of what is dear to you, I will exert myself fully on the battlefield today to protect the king of Sindhu. Yet victory rests with fate—the divine.”

One should act with full effort out of duty and loyalty, yet recognize that the final outcome—victory or defeat—ultimately depends on daiva (providence/fate), not merely human will.
In the war narrative of Droṇa Parva, Sañjaya reports a resolve made for the king’s satisfaction: to strive to protect the Sindhu king (Jayadratha), while acknowledging that the result of battle is governed by fate.
