धृष्टद्युम्नस्य द्रोणाभिमुख्यं तथा सात्यकि-कर्ण-समागमः
Dhṛṣṭadyumna’s advance toward Droṇa and the Sātyaki–Karṇa confrontation
न वार्ष्णेयस्यापराधो भवितव्यं हि तत् तथा । तस्मान्मन्युर्न व: कार्य: क्रोधो दुः:खतरो नृणाम्,आपके सैनिकोंने सात्यकिके पक्ष और विपक्षमें बहुत-सी बातें कहीं। अन्तमें वे इस प्रकार बोले--“इसमें सात्यकिका कोई अपराध नहीं है। होनहार ही ऐसी थी। इसलिये आपलोगोंको अपने मनमें क्रोध नहीं करना चाहिये; क्योंकि क्रोध ही मनुष्योंके लिये अधिक दुःखदायी होता है
sañjaya uvāca |
na vārṣṇeyasyāparādho bhavitavyaṃ hi tat tathā |
tasmān manyur na vaḥ kāryaḥ krodho duḥkhataraḥ nṛṇām ||
Sañjaya said: “This is not an offence of the Vārṣṇeya (Sātyaki); it had to happen just so. Therefore do not give place to resentment, for anger is a deeper source of suffering for human beings.”
संजय उवाच
Do not cling to resentment when events are driven by inevitability; anger only multiplies suffering and clouds judgment, especially in crisis.
In the war-reporting frame, Sañjaya conveys a counsel addressed to the warriors: Sātyaki should not be blamed for what occurred; it was fated/inevitable, so they should restrain anger.
