Sañjaya said: Then the mighty descendant of Arjuna lifted up his shield and sword, and, fixing his gaze upon Jayadratha, roared aloud like a lion—an open proclamation of resolve amid the fury of battle, where courage and duty are asserted through fearless challenge.

The verse highlights kṣatriya-dharma in action: steadfast courage and public resolve in the face of a formidable foe. The raised weapons and lion-roar signify inner determination made outward—an ethical stance of fearlessness and commitment to one’s duty in battle.
Sañjaya narrates that Abhimanyu, Arjuna’s son, lifts his shield and sword and roars while looking directly at Jayadratha, signaling a direct challenge and readiness to engage him in combat.
