Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the kṣatriya battlefield ethic of persistence: even when mentally shaken, a warrior renews his resources and continues the contest. It also hints at how inner states (durmanāḥ—dejection) can fuel intensified outward action in war.

Sañjaya reports that Karṇa, feeling distressed, picks up a different bow and unleashes a thick volley of arrows, effectively ‘covering’ Bhīma—i.e., overwhelming him with continuous missile fire.
