अन्धकार-रजःसंमूढे रणाङ्गणे प्रदीपप्रकाशः | Illumination of the Army in Darkness and Dust
तामापतन्तीमालक्ष्य भीमसेनो महागदाम् । शरैरवारयद् राजन् सर्वसैन्यस्य पश्यत:,राजन्! उस विशाल गदाको अपने ऊपर आती देख भीमसेनने सब सेनाओंके देखते- देखते बाणोंद्वारा उसका निवारण कर दिया
tām āpatantīm ālakṣya bhīmaseno mahā-gadām | śarair avārayad rājan sarva-sainyasya paśyataḥ ||
Sañjaya said: Seeing that massive mace hurtling toward him, Bhīmasena checked it with a volley of arrows, O King, in full view of the entire army.
संजय उवाच
In the battlefield setting, the verse highlights kṣatriya-dharma expressed as disciplined responsiveness: a warrior must meet sudden lethal force with alertness, skill, and restraint, maintaining steadiness even under the scrutiny of all.
A huge mace is seen rushing toward Bhīma. He notices it in time and stops/deflects its threat by shooting arrows, and this feat occurs before the eyes of the whole assembled army, as Sañjaya reports to King Dhṛtarāṣṭra.
