Sañjaya said: The best of the upholders of dharma, having reflected inwardly, spoke what lay in his heart. As Bhīmasena, intoxicated with battle-fury, roared again and again, the righteous Dharmaputra Yudhiṣṭhira—mighty-armed and foremost among the virtuous—smiled, pondered silently within himself, and then began to express his inmost thought in these words.

Even amid the frenzy of war and displays of strength, the dharmic leader is portrayed as inwardly reflective and self-possessed—acting from considered conviction rather than from intoxicated impulse.
Sañjaya describes Bhīma repeatedly roaring in battle-excitement, while Yudhiṣṭhira, calm and smiling, thinks silently and then begins to voice what is in his heart.
