तत्राद्भुतं महाराज दृष्टवानस्मि संयुगे । यद द्रोणो रभसं युद्धे पाञ्चाल्यं नाभ्यवर्तत,महाराज! उस युद्धमें मैंने यह अद्भुत बात देखी कि द्रोणाचार्य उस वेगशाली पांचालराजकुमार वीरकेतुकी ओर बढ़ न सके
tatrādbhutaṃ mahārāja dṛṣṭavān asmi saṃyuge | yad droṇo rabhasaṃ yuddhe pāñcālyaṃ nābhyavartata ||
Sañjaya said: There, O King, in the thick of battle I witnessed something astonishing: though fierce and impetuous in war, Droṇa could not press forward against the Pāñcāla warrior.
संजय उवाच
Even the most formidable warrior can be checked by circumstance and opposition; Sañjaya’s ‘adbhuta’ underscores the unpredictability of war and the limits of sheer force when confronted by effective resistance.
Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that, in the ongoing combat, he saw a surprising moment: Droṇa, despite his aggressive prowess, could not advance against a Pāñcāla fighter, indicating a temporary halt or setback in Droṇa’s assault.
