Dhṛtarāṣṭra said: “Sañjaya, when Śaineya (Sātyaki) and Arjuna were advancing—crushing my vast army as they went—what did those shameless sons of mine do then?”

The verse highlights moral accountability in leadership: Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s anxious question—calling his sons “shameless”—implicitly points to the ethical cost of supporting adharma and the blindness that comes from attachment, even as consequences unfold on the battlefield.
Dhṛtarāṣṭra asks Sañjaya to report what his sons (the Kauravas) did when Sātyaki and Arjuna pushed forward, trampling and breaking through the Kaurava forces—setting the scene for the ensuing combat and reactions.
