Sañjaya said: Having spoken thus, that foremost of the Śini line—an unrivalled archer and a slayer of foes—Sātyaki, in the midst of the great battle, suddenly showered arrows in every direction and charged upon the enemies, just as a hawk swoops down upon a piece of flesh.

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights decisive action after a stated resolve: in the ethics of kṣatriya warfare, once a warrior commits to a course in battle, he must execute it with focus and courage, even while the broader conflict remains morally grave.

After addressing his charioteer, Sātyaki—praised as the foremost archer of the Śini line—suddenly releases a rain of arrows in all directions and charges the enemy, compared to a hawk swooping on meat.
