Sañjaya said: “Indeed, to the best of my ability I have shown honor—through gifts, respectful regard, and the offering of seats. Likewise, O dear one, my sons too, together with our kinsmen and all our relatives and friends, have welcomed and honored the warriors in the same manner.”

Even amid war, dharma includes proper reception and respect: honoring guests and dependents according to one’s means (yathāśaktyā) through gifts, esteem, and hospitality is presented as an ethical obligation.
Sañjaya reports that he, his sons, and their wider family have duly welcomed and honored the assembled warriors/soldiers with customary acts of hospitality—gifts, respectful treatment, and offering seats—emphasizing that it was done to the best of their capacity.
