Sañjaya said: Having defeated the sons of Pāṇḍu in battle—those led in the forefront by Bhīmasena—Kṛtavarman, the son of Hṛdīka, stood firm on that battlefield, resplendent like a smokeless fire.

The verse highlights how battlefield success can make a warrior appear intensely radiant and unwavering—"like a smokeless fire"—yet the Mahābhārata’s ethical backdrop reminds us that martial victory and moral rightness are not identical; dharma must be weighed beyond mere triumph.
Sañjaya reports that Kṛtavarman (Hārdikya) has overcome the Pāṇḍavas, who are led by Bhīma, and now stands firmly in the fight, shining with formidable presence, compared to a clear, smokeless flame.
