Sañjaya said: “With minds exhilarated yet intent and alert, they were duly arrayed upon the chariot—marked by a great banner bearing a lion, and adorned with a garland of golden mane-like tassels.”

Even in the chaos of war, the verse highlights disciplined readiness (vidhivat kalpitān) and focused alertness (vyagrān). It suggests that outward order—proper equipment, clear insignia, and regulated preparation—mirrors inner steadiness, which is ethically significant when actions carry grave consequences.
Sañjaya describes warriors being properly prepared on a chariot distinguished by a great banner with a lion emblem and golden ornamental tassels. The line paints a vivid scene of martial display and readiness immediately surrounding the unfolding combat.
