Adhyāya 113: Karṇa–Bhīma Śaravarṣa and the Battlefield Aftermath (कर्णभीमशरवर्षः)
धृष्टय्युम्नश्व॒ समरे द्रोणं क़ुद्धं परंतप:
dhṛṣṭadyumnaś ca samare droṇaṁ kruddhaṁ parantapaḥ
Yudhiṣṭhira said: “And Dhṛṣṭadyumna, O scorcher of foes, confronted Droṇa in the thick of battle when the preceptor had become inflamed with wrath.”
युधिछिर उवाच
The verse highlights the ethical tension of war: even revered figures like Droṇa can be overtaken by anger, and leaders must face the consequences of wrath on the battlefield while still acting within their perceived duty (kṣatriya-dharma).
In the Drona Parva’s battle sequence, Yudhiṣṭhira notes that Dhṛṣṭadyumna engages Droṇa in combat at a moment when Droṇa is furious, underscoring the intensity of the encounter between the Pāṇḍava commander and the enraged Kaurava general.
