महार्थ लघुसंयुक्त कर्तुमहसि मानद । तस्य मे सर्वकार्येषु कार्यमेतन््मतं महत्
mahārtha-laghusaṃyukta kartuṃ arhasi mānada | tasya me sarvakāryeṣu kāryam etan mataṃ mahat ||
O bestower of honor, you should frame it so that great meaning is joined with brevity. For me, in all undertakings, this is the weightiest and most necessary task—this is my firm conviction.
युधिष्ठिर उवाच
The verse values communication that is both profound and concise: speech or counsel should carry great meaning without unnecessary length, because clarity and relevance are essential to righteous and effective action.
Yudhiṣṭhira addresses a respected interlocutor, urging them to present guidance or a statement in a compact yet meaningful form, emphasizing that this matter is of paramount importance for his decisions and actions.
