Sañjaya said: Enraged, he seized his mace and hurled it, O scorcher of foes. Seeing that mace rushing toward him, Yudhiṣṭhira—his anger kindled—also lifted a mace and cast it back, directing it against Droṇācārya.

The verse highlights how, in the battlefield context of kṣatriya-dharma, even a ruler committed to righteousness may respond with equal force when directly threatened; anger and duty can override personal restraint, showing the moral tension between non-harm and martial obligation.
A mace is seized and hurled in anger; seeing it coming at him, Yudhiṣṭhira also takes up a mace and throws it back, aiming at Droṇācārya, as Sanjaya reports the escalating exchange of heavy weapons in the Drona Parva battle.
