Pañcālā hi jighāṃsanto Droṇaṃ saṃhṛṣṭacetasaḥ | abhyamuñcanta garjantaḥ śaravarṣāṇi māriṣa, mānanīya nareśa ||
Sañjaya said: The Pañcālas, intent on slaying Droṇa, their minds exultant, roared aloud and poured down showers of arrows upon him—O honored king.
संजय उवाच
The verse underscores how the intention to kill, when joined with collective excitement, can eclipse discernment and compassion. It implicitly warns that triumphal emotion in war easily becomes moral intoxication, intensifying cruelty even when framed as kṣatriya-duty.
Sañjaya reports to the king that the Pañcāla forces, eager to kill Droṇa, raise battle-cries and unleash dense volleys of arrows at him, signaling a concentrated assault on Droṇa in the Drona Parva battle sequence.
