Sañjaya said: “I see a tremendous burden resting upon that foremost of rākṣasas. And Grandfather Bhīṣma too, inflamed with anger, is poised to strike down the Pāñcālas.”

The verse highlights how krodha (anger) and the presence of extraordinarily powerful fighters magnify the ‘burden’ of war—strategically and ethically. It implicitly warns that rage-driven action, even by revered elders like Bhīṣma, accelerates adharma-like outcomes: indiscriminate slaughter and loss of restraint.
Sanjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that the battle’s intensity is surging: the foremost rākṣasa (Ghaṭotkaca) is under immense pressure amid combat (notably involving Duryodhana in the surrounding narrative), while Bhīṣma, furious, is preparing to attack and kill the Pāñcālas.
