Sañjaya said: In the very midst of the enemy host, the high-souled Dhṛṣṭadyumna swiftly relieved Bhīmasena of the arrows embedded in his body, lifted him onto his own chariot, and—embracing him firmly—restored his courage. The scene underscores a warrior’s duty not only to strike the foe but also to protect and steady an ally when the battle’s pressure threatens to overwhelm him.

Educational Q&A

Even in war, dharma includes responsibility toward one’s companions: a leader must protect, heal when possible, and restore morale. Dhṛṣṭadyumna’s act models kṣatriya duty as both valor against enemies and steadfast care for allies.

Bhīma is badly wounded and pressured amid enemy forces. Dhṛṣṭadyumna reaches him, removes the embedded arrows, places him on his own chariot, embraces him, and reassures him—stabilizing Bhīma so he can endure and continue the fight.
