Sañjaya said: Śitraseṇa struck him in return with ten sharp, straight-flying arrows; Satyavrata pierced him with nine; and Purumitra with seven. Thus, in the press of battle, Abhimanyu was wounded by their concentrated assault.

The verse highlights the harsh reality of warfare: even a single heroic fighter can be overwhelmed by coordinated attacks. It invites reflection on kṣatriya-dharma (martial duty) and the ethical tension between individual valor and collective tactics on the battlefield.
Sañjaya reports that three warriors—Śitraseṇa, Satyavrata, and Purumitra—shoot Abhimanyu with successive volleys (10, 9, and 7 arrows), wounding him amid the ongoing battle.
