Sañjaya said: Driven that way and this, the horses—swift as thought and the wind—ran wherever a path opened before them. From this, a tremendous din and uproar arose throughout the entire army, signaling the spreading confusion and the uncontrollable momentum of battle once it is set in motion.

The verse highlights how, in war, events quickly exceed individual control: once fear and force scatter formations, even powerful assets like swift horses move unpredictably, and collective disorder spreads. Ethically, it underscores the grave consequences of unleashing violence—its momentum generates confusion and suffering beyond intention.
Sañjaya describes a battlefield moment where the horses, extremely fast, bolt in whatever direction they find space. Their uncontrolled movement triggers a loud, tumultuous uproar across the entire army, indicating disturbance and disarray in the ranks.
