Sañjaya said: “Thus, in the sacred Mahābhārata, within the Bhīṣma Parva, in the section concerning the slaying (fall) of Bhīṣma, the seventieth chapter—dealing with the confused and densely entangled battle—comes to an end.”

This verse is a colophon marking the close of a chapter; its implicit lesson is attentiveness to textual structure and context—recognizing how the epic frames episodes of war as morally weighty narrative units rather than mere action.
Sañjaya signals to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that the chapter describing a ‘saṅkula’ (confused, intermingled) phase of the Kurukṣetra battle has concluded, within the Bhīṣma Parva and the sub-section focused on Bhīṣma’s fall.
