Bhīṣma checks Bhīmasena; matched engagements intensify
dhruvaṃ viduravākyāni dhakṣyanti hṛdayaṃ mama | yathā hi dṛśyate sarvaṃ daivayogena saṃjaya saṃjaya ||
Dhṛtarāṣṭra said: “Surely Vidura’s words will burn my heart to ashes. For, Saṃjaya—indeed, Saṃjaya—everything is now seen to be unfolding exactly as he foretold, by the force of destiny.”
Ignoring wise counsel (Vidura’s ethical warnings) leads to inner torment when consequences arrive; the verse highlights remorse and the sense that destiny completes what human blindness and adharma set in motion.
Dhṛtarāṣṭra, hearing Saṃjaya’s report of events, recognizes that Vidura’s earlier predictions and admonitions are being fulfilled; he laments that these remembered words now scorch his heart as the war’s outcomes begin to manifest.
